Each council can join GovPrint as it is today. When authorities merge, users, sites and devices move into the new organisation without a rebuild, a migration project or new print servers.
Local Government Reorganisation
Local Government Reorganisation is changing how councils across England are structured. Districts and counties are coming together, new unitary authorities are forming, and in many areas the final shape isn't settled yet.
That uncertainty makes procurement hard. Why commit to a print contract, a server estate or a device refresh built around an organisation that may not exist in two years?
GovPrint removes that problem. It's a cloud print platform that doesn't depend on your council's boundaries, network or current supplier, so it keeps working however your authority is reorganised.
Each council can join GovPrint as it is today. When authorities merge, users, sites and devices move into the new organisation without a rebuild, a migration project or new print servers.
GovPrint is a shared national ecosystem. Staff from merging councils can release their print at any GovPrint device, so co-located teams and staff working across former council sites carry on as normal.
There are no print servers to migrate, no drivers to manage and no network changes. Your IT team can focus on the wider reorganisation.
GovPrint works with Canon, Ricoh, Xerox, Lexmark and HP devices. Existing devices can be reused rather than replaced, which saves money and cuts waste.
GovPrint is delivered in partnership with the Government Property Agency. MHCLG, the department responsible for local government, has highlighted it as supporting its efficiency and digital sustainability ambitions.
“As more departments use GovPrint and become less reliant on printing, printers can be returned and reused elsewhere across government. GovPrint is currently reusing around seven devices each month, reducing the need to buy new printers as the service grows.”
